A second opinion worth hearing

IIMI Institute's Children's Scoliosis Center in Munich works with families from CIS countries — for parents who want to understand their child's diagnosis before making any decision on bracing or surgery. Every case is reviewed personally, to German guideline standards, and travel to Germany is proposed only when it genuinely affects the outcome.

What the IIMI Institute Center does

Four pillars hold the work together: diagnostics, second opinion, conservative treatment, and surgical consultation. All four — under one team.

Structured second opinion

Imaging, Cobb angle and Risser stage are reviewed by the IIMI Institute pediatric spine team. The response covers diagnosis, progression risk, and a justified recommendation — observation, bracing, or surgery.

German-standard diagnostics

EOS low-dose biplanar imaging, standardised Cobb methodology, skeletal maturity assessment. Between visits, comparable numbers — not subjective impressions.

Conservative treatment

Chêneau-Gensingen and Rigo bracing, Schroth Best-Practice physiotherapy, adherence monitoring. In most cases surgery is not needed when conservative therapy starts in time.

Surgical consultation

When surgery is indicated — strategy discussion with an operating spine surgeon, rationale for timing and method. A consultation does not commit you to an operation.

Your child's care is led by two of Germany's most published spine surgeons, previously heading the spine program at Schön Klinik München-Harlaching, now co-founders of SpineCare München.

How IIMI Institute works

01

Every case is reviewed personally

Imaging and clinical context are reviewed by an operating spine surgeon — not by an algorithm or an assistant. The answer rests on extensive operative experience, not a template.

02

Decisions follow German clinical guidelines

Strategy follows the current AWMF-S2k guideline for adolescent scoliosis: thresholds for observation, bracing and surgery do not depend on who pays or where the family travels.

03

Travel is proposed only when it changes the picture

If a written second opinion plus continued follow-up at home solves the problem, IIMI Institute says so plainly. Munich is proposed when in-person assessment, EOS imaging, brace fitting, or surgical consultation changes the outcome.

04

Russian-speaking support

The coordinator writes in Russian, translates medical documents, and prepares the child and parents for the consultation. Language should not influence a health decision.
